The Finite Element Method (FEM) was born nearly 70 years ago. Today, thanks to the advent of digital calculators, it has become the primary digital tool for computer-aided design.

The FEM is a discipline where mathematics, mechanics, and numerical analysis are closely intertwined. At present, there is a rich documentation on this method. The approach taken in this course is primarily focused on modeling rather than theory in order to demystify this calculation tool and make it more accessible to students.

Although FEM can be applied to a wide range of problems such as those related to heat transfer, aeronautics, fluid mechanics, electromagnetism, structural analysis, etc., this course is focused on the latter discipline as it is intended for civil engineering students.
